James A. Conan

James A. Conan is the author of Our Big Little Place (Fall 2019).The oldest of two brothers, he was raised in Toronto, where he still lives today. As a child, his favorite books were The Hockey Sweater by Roch Carrier, The Red Carpet by Rex Parkin, and R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps series. At the age of 10, he was given a stack of juvenile science fiction paperbacks by an uncle and found himself hooked for life. Along with a good book, he loves spending time with animals, days at the beach, barbecuing, and playing tennis.

James has worked in retail, landscaping, and local politics. He was briefly an auctioneer, dabbles in freelance content writing, and is now a cook. He studied Politics and International Development at Trent University, and graduated from Centennial College's Book, Magazine, and Electronic Publishing Program. Through his studies there, he was introduced to some of the wonderful people at Annick Press who made Our Big Little Place possible.

In addition to Our Big Little Place, James is the author of several published short stories, mostly works of science fiction. He has been writing since high school and had his first story accepted for publication at the age of 24. His own big little place is in Toronto’s East End. He is excited to have the chance to depict family life and imaginative play in a fun setting that reflects life in the city he loves.
